EUMEDCONNECT Users
EUMEDCONNECT provides dedicated high-bandwidth, low latency connections between national research and education networks (NRENs) in 16 countries and connects with the pan-European GÉANT2 network. Using EUMEDCONNECT allows for transfer of large amounts of data between collaborating partners, but can equally be used to provide fast access to conventional web-based resources from all over the Mediterranean and beyond. For institutions connecting to participating networks, the services it provides are free at the point of use.
How to Connect to EUMEDCONNECT
In order to benefit from the EUMEDCONNECT infrastructure, project partners should contact their local NRENs, to establish whether their host institution is already connected. If this is the case, you are ready to use EUMEDCONNECT! If not, the national network will advise of the application procedure. Contact details for each NREN are supplied in the document linked alongside this page.
How to Get Support
If you require support for your networking activities, your local NREN will be happy to help. If you require support relating to international networking issues, please contact EUMEDCONNECT user support.
Case Studies
EUMEDCONNECT is supporting a number of projects, in particular in the fields of e-science and e-learning. These include:
- EUMEDGRID, the first grid computing project in the Mediterranean region, which began in January 2006 and makes extensive use of EUMEDCONNECT’s infrastructure
- The EuMed Cancer - GeMed Network project, which aims to develop centres of excellence in genetics in Mediterranean countries through the provision of online courses and workshops.
More information on these projects can be found via the link in the left-hand menu.
